John Trowsdale at the Saul Hey gallery Manchester

A little bit about John

Welcome to my website, I sincerely hope you enjoy exploring the artwork I have created in the last few years.

I've been creating art as long as I can remember, much of that time around my family life and along side a printing career until 2020 when I gave up a good living to become a full time artist. The need to create art and feel that achievement when I sign off a work of art is so rewarding. It's a rocky road I've chosen for sure, but worth every minute of every day.

when someone loves my work enough to want to look at it everyday on their walls, this for me is the ultimate compliment.

Motivation to capture the landscapes and seascapes around the UK and beyond in my paintings comes from my love of the outdoors and a passion for creating art that tells a story of personal experience. Bringing a landscape scene to life in rich colours and fine detail for the viewer to connect with is my main goal.

Many of the oil paints on display have taken several weeks to complete, building up layers of paint and texture in a process I follow to create depth in my work.

I am very pleased to have received some recognition by winning an International award for landscape in oil. I've also been fortunate to have exhibited work in a number of galleries including D31 Doncaster, Saul Hay Manchester and the Mall Galleries, London with the Royal Society of British Artists. D31 Gallery Summer Exhibition

Having missed the artist launch party while in Rhodes, it was great to get the opportunity to see the gallery set up for the exhibition at first hand at the public launch.

Meeting Chinwe Russell, Laura Lee and the rest of the gallery team was inspiring, not to mention having some very interesting conversations with talented and diverse artists like London based Ekaterina Adelskaya. Three of my works were on display during the exhibition in Doncaster. Both of the original paintings seen in the photo have now sold.

The news is......I made the news

Following on from the small display I had in Romiley, a local newspaper noticed the display and wrote an article about me and my oil paintings, highlighting the landscape scenes of Romiley Village, Marple and Chadkirk that the locals know so well and love.

Award winning painting

I was delighted to come runner up in the
'Art show International' Landscape 2021 competition for 'Samuel's Mill' Although once a little sceptical of art competitions as being subjective, I think my attitude might be changing towards them as I have started to believe it helps to build self confidence as an artist and to a degree, gives the painting and myself some credibility.

My Grandad loved your print. I gave it him today after getting it framed for Father's Day. He cried. He was made up. So thank you for creating such a special painting.

Now that's service for you! Got it, it's lovely, thanks so much.
