'Summer In Chadkirk'

'Summer In Chadkirk'

The chapel dates back to around 1300, but fell into disuse and decay.

It was taken over by the Church of England in 1747 and rebuilt in stone.

In 1971 the chapel was declared redundent.

After much restoration around the time of 1995 in the hands of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, the chapel is now open as a popular visitors attraction, as it sits in the beautiful Chadkirk Country Estate.

The grass lawn and gardens are captured on a bright summers day. A monkey puzzle tree is cut away. perhaps to show the house from the garden? sunlight just catches the wooden statue of a monk looking on at any playfull scene the lawn has to offer.

I grew up not far from this special place, I worked  on the nearby Chadkirk Industrial Estate as a young printing apprentice. I would run through the grounds to get to work on time.

Now over 40 years later, it is one of my favourite local dog walks, a pleasure to walk through and even more pleasure to paint.
